Costa Rica is a democratic nation in Central America that lies near the equator between Nicaragua and Panama.

Costa Rica boasts 25% of its territory under some form of protection, denoted by black below. The dark shade of gray represents those areas that have been identified as important areas for conservation efforts and are desirable to be included in the Central American Biological Corridor, a major Central American conservation initiative which seeks to secure forest connectivity throughout the isthmus. Note that the study/conservation area that Amiogs de los Monos is working to protect is included as a proposed corridor.

The map below denotes the Conte Burica Ngäbe Indigenous Reserve (12,000 has) with respect to the Rio Coco.
